Here is an article written by one of my fourth grade students about the trout tank in our classroom.  We have about 150 baby trout right now in the tank, and they’re going strong!  I attached the version he did with some pictures to print out if you’d like! Thanks TIC!

All about Brook Trout
By: Trevor
In the 4-T classroom, a huge tank sits on the class counter top. Brook Trout are New Jersey’s state fish and   that’s why we have trout in our classroom.
They’re found in New Jersey and all other sorts of places on the east coast of the U.S.A. They can grow to be an enormous 16 inches long. The trout swim in clear lakes, streams and small creeks. Brook trout live in almost every lake or stream in New Jersey. They can weigh from a tiny 11 ounces to a huge 2 pounds. The largest Brook Trout ever caught was 14.5 pounds.
On the backside of the trout, its colors are olive, green, and dark brown. They eat bugs, worms and algae.
I observed the tank in the classroom.  The fish live in a 55 gallon rectangular prism tank. Mr. Thurlow prepared their habitat so it was like a river. He picked some rocks from a river in Gladstone, the Gladstone River.
There are also snails and crayfish that live there. The snails eat the algae. Crayfish like to organize the rocks and the gravel into miniature homes. The classroom is getting fish eggs on October, 27!  If you want to learn more, come to Mr. Thurlow’s room. That’s Room 257, right across from the gym.
