Brian has been bugging us to add posts to the web site so here goes. This is my first year doing TIC and the kids love it.
Questions: about when should we switch to #1 food and about how much to feed?
Should we turn the UV light on now?
Any input is greatly appreciated, Marty

Marty - you get the extra credit!!! To all 1st year teachers, please bear with us while we add your school names so that they appear on the right column under “Participating Schools” whenever you post. Once we have all schools in the system, I will go back and edit them so you get full credit (starting to sound like a teacher myself, aren’t I?). Sounds like I need to forward my “feeding guidelines” to our teachers, but to answer your question, you should keep feeding size “0″ food for now.
On the UV light, the jury remains out. I am moving more and more towards us not needing then in tanks with adequate filtration. My guess is if you are running one of the canister filters like the Fluval or you have more than one Millennium hang-on filter you will not need the UV Sterilizer. I tell teachers to go ahead and turn it on as soon as you see algae growing on your tank’s sides.
