Hunterdon County Polytech is having problems with cloudy water. The water quality is OK, and has not diminished. Our levels for everything are near 0, but our water is extremely cloudy and dirty. We do water changes everyday. I think it is due to the number of fish we have, we still have over 100 fish. Any suggestions for the cloudy water?

As we all gain experience together, I am seeing that certain equipment most of you are using could be upgraded at a moderate cost for future tanks or to upgrade yours. I suspect that the filter we now use could be a stronger one or that a smaller second filter could be added to help with water chemistry. Also, the addition of either a second aerator or a stronger one would help as well and this is a low dollar item. I know that several of you have monster filters or have added a second filter and that you are getting better water quality results than others. I also noticed that several of you have added a second or upgraded aeration unit as well. Two things we can’t do too much of for trout are filtering their water and aerating it!!! As the trout grow in size, water quality will degrade more quickly. Go back to using your “turkey baster” to get out as much solid waste as you can from the bottom of the tank. Removing some of the fish’s waste will also help.
