A quick question????

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

For future reference, how long can the fish go without being fed? I am worried about the winter break being such a long one. Does any expert out there think the fish can make it for 2, 3 or 4 days without food??? Thanks!

I will defer to other’s expertise and make sure you get an answer shortly. I know some schools use an automatic feeder, others solicit the help of the custodial staff and yet others live close by and stop in to check up on the fish themselves. One warning when using automatic feeders. At some point the fish will grow large and strong enough to bump up against some of these feeders and risk knocking them into the water, electrocuting the fish. Please take necessary precautions to minimize this before the fry grow too large. Look here soon for more info regarding feeding over the holidays.

Please see my article on same in “Resources”. It seems we can go as long as 8-10 days without a feeding, but please read more under “Holiday/Winter break and feeding the fish”. Just think how easy this will be next year for all of you involved this year!
